Made a shitty graph in case people care about that

A little bit scuffed but I added the individual patches on the timeline, every tick at the bottom is a month. Interestingly you can see that we've been at these pop numbers before, but never for more than two months. There is a dip down to an all time low of 38 in October, which I thought would be due to the JAMP crashes but those were fixed in the same month R20 released. I have a feeling the fact that Star Wars as a franchise falling off a bit in popularity might have more to do with this than we can imagine.

I'd map the releases of Star Wars media unto it (like Book of Boba) but I seriously can't be bothered, if someone wants to do it for some reason you can just copy my google sheet and add it yourself.

The golden age of MB2 has long since passed. At this rate of decline, it seems likely the game will soon reach its lowest point, and even the most dedicated players may not be able to prevent this. In my opinion, without the Legends mod, the game would have already lost much of its appeal. Legends remains the final game mode sustaining MB2’s player base, especially considering the dwindling activity in other modes like Opens.

Saber Showdown somehow attracts hundreds of new players, despite being far less complex than MB2. Thanks to this influx, some of these players occasionally migrate to MB2, but their interest is usually short-lived. They check out the game and leave without offering feedback or showing any lasting interest. When they do share their thoughts, they often describe the game as outdated, with an older community, lacking in fun, and overly rigid. They find the gameplay frustrating due to numerous bugs, lag issues, and gameplay randomness, which make it difficult to understand why they lose.

Competitive games typically require an accessible entry level for new players, but this is sorely missing in MB2. This steep learning curve discourages newcomers and limits the game's growth potential.

I don't think there's any migration from Saber Showdown to MB2, there isn't even a link to MB2 on their mod page. Would be cool to have a link on their page that can also measure traffic.

Difference is that Saber showdown is a Roblox obby, and Roblox is an extremely popular game. Movie battles 2 is a modification of Jedi knight: Academy, which is a far less known game and you need to go into the files to actually play the mod. So, the analogy you made is pretty flawed. But, i do agree on the rest.

This highlights how many platforms and more interesting games have been created since MB2 was released, while the game itself hasn’t changed much or adapted to younger generations. Saber Showdown is a simplified copy of MB2’s dueling system, so I’m not surprised when players think they know MB2 because they’ve played Roblox, only to be shocked by how much more effort MB2 requires.

The main take-away is that the game should first and foremost have FUN GAMEPLAY, and that everything else, including FA and maps, should be of lesser import. It's something that has been said since time immemorial.

Unfortunately..... the Devs don't care about "Fun." Apparently neither do the playerbase, well.... certain players anyway.
