rage wookiee

why is it so strong? it takes no skill to use and the only reliable counterplay to it is staying at least 20m away from every wookiee and every spot where a wookiee might be hiding. it absolutely dominates cramped areas like gen corridor/small storage on lunar and small maps like smuggler especially when there's multiple people using it because it takes so long to burn through their damage reduction.

i really just dont see fury belonging in the game right now, it's the most rock/paper/scissors mechanic where some classes (ets, soldiers, bounty hunters, sbds) have absolutely no counterplay in a 1v1 or even a 1v2, the other 3 can pretty much only run away provided the right circumstances (if youre a sith you can jump on a high box if there is one, if youre a mando you can fly provided you had enough space to begin with to turn on your jetpack, dekas can roll away). the only reliable way to kill a raging wookiee is to have both a lot of space and preferably multiple teammates shooting him. red used to be the only soft counter to it but now that wookiees can barge through block and crouch it's pretty much gone

fury on average is not overpowered and that's not what i'm saying. it's just in certain situations it's so impossible to deal with and that combined with the fact that it takes 0 skill to execute optimally makes it very unfun to play against.

if redesigning fury is too much work (i would personally love to see something similar to what hex had in mind with his rework where rage would be converted into healing or a temporary shield, especially seeing how squishy bowcaster wookiee is) i would suggest removing the movespeed buff and reducing the damage buff they get from fury. this way 1v1ing a wookiee would be much more realistic because you'd be able to kite them and the damage nerf would mean they wouldn't be able to 1vX as easily. keeping them fairly durable but kiteable would preserve their ability to disrupt defences by forcing the imperials to reposition and keep their distance but it'd significantly nerf their 1v1 potential

I've played MBII off and on for years on NA servers, and in my opinion, the current version of the wookie is incredibly game breaking.

First, I have to wonder if its hit box (when in rage/fury mode) is accurate. From my perspective, I've had wookies land their bash attack from a distance; almost as if the attack is somehow being accelerated past where their model is displayed. Also, on numerous occasions (but it's not commonplace), I've seen sabers completely go through rage wookies with no hit registration occurring. For all other classes, that almost never happens.

I didn't fully read all 4 pages up to this point, but from skimming I saw people talking about 1v1 scenarios or ideal/less ideal conditions when fighting a wookie 1v1. I don't even want to touch on that because MBII is a team game. When engagements begin they're often involving multiple classes and multiple other players. A certain flow to combat is established; it's a very fun and unique thing to MBII specifically. In my opinion, the wookie completely breaks that flow and dramatically changes how the enemy team has to fight. The change is certainly not for the better; it's incredibly unfun and just doesn't feel like it fits in the game.

For various reasons, which I'm sure have all been discussed here, the wookie is an easy class to achieve results with and has no real hard counter; they certainly can't be countered as hard as what they can do to others. All of these problems multiply when an actual skilled player takes up wookie. When the wookie player actually understands how much space they can command, how powerful their character is, and is genuinely a good player the already (in my opinion) overpowered wookie becomes extraordinarily difficult to deal with. Now pretend there are 2, 3, or 4 wookies; the game becomes awful. I rarely interact with anyone, even in game, but the only time I see a player defending the wookie class is when they've got a 5:1 K/D as a wookie.

In short, the lack of a hard counter makes playing against wookies very unfun. Even worse, rage wookies can stop several classes in their tracks and dramatically effect the flow of combat more so than any other class on either side.

I took my hiatus just before rage was implemented in the game, but my first thought on hearing about it was that it was a mistake and, looking back, might be the first time that MB2 "jumped the shark."

The main issue with rage as a mechanic is that it turns the wookiee class into an unfun gimmick to play against. It's either all-powerful and deadly in close quarters, or it's useless and nothing to be afraid of. I don't know a single competent gunner wook player or even a wookiee "main".

The current design encourages wook players to play the dreaded pop out game, waiting around corners. Some of that's bad map design, but even on good maps, there is no extra prudence or precaution to be taken against a rage wook lurking around a corner. 9/10 times, if you're not a Mandalorian or a Sith (and sometimes even if you are), it's game over if a wookiee manages to catch you at a corner or an intersection, or just runs into a group battle midway through.

The only real counterplay is to be aware that there is a wookiee on the enemy team and to make sure you don't get caught in the wrong part of the map when you have to fight them. If you are, you may as well step back from the mouse and keyboard.

I echo sev's nostalgic sentiment about there being a time when wookiees were just interesting gunners and a soft counter to Sith. I understand why there was a drive to make wookiees more distinctive and bring them a bit more in line with their film counterparts, but I can't see that it's done the class any favours over the years...

Long story short, wookiee rage is oppressive too often, unfun to play against as certain classes, takes very little skill to have a strong impact

Would love to see a jedi outcast-style bowcaster with multishot or bounceshot and turn wookiee into a specialist gunner kinda class instead of a brainless ape running a couple soldiers down before dying each round. hexodious' suggestion seems really solid and far better than current version of wookiee
