I imagine a new player knowing nothing about the game would be overwhelmed the moment they select a team and are faced with a billion different characters, each with different abilities and some with different build options.
Wow i guess that the tutorial button that was meant to first appear in front of the players screen when first playing MB2 was not displayed well. Even if the tutorial doesn't cover much you should at least understand a decent amount of the game.

Man even I am overwhelmed by the amount of stuff legends has. Billion classes with ton of different abilities without a good explanation on how they really work. Add to that 4 different mb2 special buttons and it becomes truly a mess.

If we are all so dissatisfied with the current direction MBII is taking, maybe we should take the initiative into our own hands?
For example if all MBII players chip in, we could hire a hitman to murder the current dev team. The power vacuum will inevitably be filled by ambitious visionaries like @YamThePrussian

There's a reason I left the team before R20 release, and I've already said enough in this thread, and my wishlist for the future thread: MaceMadunusus's Roadmap to the Future
Also to address the "do people even play stuff" A lot of the balance changes made in recent years were made by people who constantly play as part of the NA scrim community on sandbox... so yeah, most of the people making those decisions do play.

There is no way!

Those people are disgusting sweats that ruin my fun!!! (My fun is rocket arc CW and hiding in gen as soldier!)
Excuse me? Who are you to exclude people who enjoy non-trivial gameplay from the conversation? If @YamThePrussian is bored out of his mind and wants to imitate fellatio on afk players 4 hours straight that's what he is going to do, unless the game provides players like him with a suitable alternative

Hello my fellow human being with rights guaranteed by the UN charter of human rights,

Why did you include me in your example? It seems very specific. Why not include an MBII player of colour such as @AaronAaron? Are you conscious of your racial bias?

As someone who only started playing since 2020, I can confirm that that I used to hate legends for the pure insanity and how off the wall it was. Now I love legends cause there's classes and builds I like that I can't achieve with open, but I definitely wish that wasn't the case.

Legends I don't believe would garner new players. It becomes more enjoyable when you have a more broad and deep understanding of the mechanics so you know what to expect. Open is a lot more structured and becomes instantly familiar to anyone who's played a class based game before. Obviously there's some major differences with stat adjustments and such, but it's generally a lot easier to grasp early on, at least for me it was.

I never really got to experience the "old" movie battles, but I can say in the last 5 years I think the major problem in updates has been the randomness of it. One update could be a bunch of models getting changed to look worse or the other buffs weapon. I'm not saying that I want a massive ambitious update like the R20 update, but some cohesion and thoughtfulness to what gets changed while also accounting for player engagement. Considering I've heard nothing but Lightsaber complaints since I started, I'm not quite sure who the demographic for the updates has been.

Honestly though it's really hard in general to actually decipher the reasoning for anything with the game right now, I think there's such a disconnect that everyone's scrambling for a why answer, but it's really just a string of shit that all culminated into the mess we got now. I'll still hop on the game occasionally, but I can say for certain I don't play nearly as much as I did early on.

Even this post is kinda incoherent, I'm just kinda rambling off some thoughts as I'm reading all of this again. I hope we can all band together and make this game prosper, cause it really is a one of a kind experience. I originally played jedi academy on ps4 before realizing how awesome this mod was. Hoping we keep that interest for more people.

My racial bias? You are calling me racist? Remember that 40 minute insane rant of yours about over half of MBII devs being Jewish? Something something... cronyism! Something something hoarding means of MBII production!
What about that time when you said "Before posting on MBII forums I always ask myself, what would Adolf Hitler say?"
Would you care to elaborate on that? @YamThePrussian
Can we stop with the constructive critisism and just bash the devs instead?
Please refrain from personal attacks and your own biases

Maybe not as sour of a take as Hex's here. Dev is an often thankless job and it's not easy.

Having tried Open and Legends today with an open mind. The biggest thing I'm missing is the punch. The game feels a lot more muted. I had a lot of hype going in for Beskar and Whistling Birds for example. After playing with them, they had little-to-no punch. In sore need of buffs and general game juice. Attunement was also confusing. Sabering had no weight.

I hope the game can get a bit more love in making it juicy and dynamic.

Maybe I'm just old. New music sounds like ass, movies are predictable and my donger no longer works as it used to. Perhaps it's the same with this game.
I know I have a playlist of MB2 videos saved in my youtube profile.
Could you go into details why it's less fun? The lack of admins, the number of trolls and timewasters can ruin it for sure. But beyond that how would you word it?
I personally play a lot and still find it enjoyable for the most part and I also spend equal time on modding/dev stuff. The environment of both the current community/dev team and the actual state of Star Wars make the situation a bit uneasy I could say.
I'm also confident the community wanted new classes, new weapons, new force abilities for years. It's been like 15 years since the last new class? 13 years since the last new weapon? Decades have passed and new stuff didn't really happen in Open - excluding maps/models. However you can do those in Legends easily. That might explain why it has become so popular. Now, I'm still more of a fan of Open than Legends but I can understand the psychology and evolution behind the situation we're in.
U guys are right

There's been a trend of taking away the punch of things such as mindtrick (MINDTRICK HAD MAYBE THE WORST CHANGE EVER), nadejump, force lightning, repulse and superpush (apparently unintentionally, I still feel its to do with 'collision fixes'), dueling, and more.

The swings feel weird, swingblock still isn't working right, perfect blocks and counters feel weird, and the hitboxes of saber swings are way too big still.

There's been a trend of fucking bloat in the keybinds especially for melee moves

And there's also been a trend of not adding any of the creative or original ideas for force powers / new classes / weapons. Rather all that has been added instead are ideas from other pieces of media and games. Like seriously, charged lvl 3 push was seriously considered as an idea?? That was from the force unleashed. Grip had the idea floated of you could hold it to drag people towards you? Seriously? That's from jedi fallen order and jedi survivor. Amban and whistling birds? Who asked for that? Some american players? Nobody wanted that cringe disney shit. Do not even get me started on the changes to speedlunge. Like literally that was changed because of people crying their eyes out from being speedlunged while standing above people on stairs on smuggler probably. And it was super fucking nerfed even before that with the changes to the camera lock. It wasn't an issue of an 'unfair death', those people just wanted to have it changed so that they never had to think about being speedlunged while having the high ground on a staircase.

Nobody wanted to be limited in choosing between saber and blaster defense. I don't personally think there was a problem in the availability of force powers. Now you either choose attunement 2 and blaster def 2 so that you can be half normal and still neutered, or you choose attunement 3 and may get bodied by total noobs due to the continuous increasing of fp drains as well as having blaster def 1 or even 0.

In the past you could take on a room of 2-5 gunners as a single force user, with or without saber defense. Now, you are lucky to not get pushed across the room from a single blaster shot that you swingblocked on, that also took at least 15-20 of your fp (nice knockback mechanic btw its really shit, maybe bring back flinch or reduce knockback for once?).

Really guys, nobody wanted to ever be limited in any dumbass thing like a delay between using pushes and pulls, OR A MINIMUM DISTANCE TO USE PUSH OR PULL?????, or their class building, or mechanics like nadejump being locked behind a higher level of quickthrow.

It really reflects the woke/DEI/PC culture of the past 45 years, neuter everything, make everything bland and gay, make it so everyone is included. Hell, add disney to the mix! we want disney and DEI! Why not try to attract investors from blackrock capital while we're at it? we really need to focus on our ESG in these next 3 quarters guys or we're gonna lose our funding!

It's just depressing. A good starting point to perhaps rebuild MB2 would be around 2017/2018's patches, before the game began to feel restrictive for me.

I personally still have fun in the game but I don't know how much longer that will last.

I really don't know how much more I can endure

Mando originally had proj a long time ago. And there were some in the community that existed back then that wanted it brought back. Amban gave an easy way to do that, while still being different and not giving them something quite as powerful as proj (cause jetpack).

Whistling birds are actually from episode 5. The costume designers talk about them when explaining the bits and bobs for bobas armor. Disney only made them actually work. But yeah were a star wars game, gotta take some inspiration, ideas, etc from canon.
