Favoritism

You know the absolute best way to sum up not only a bad patch, but the people who are making these horrid changes? When the official feedback thread is locked NINE FUCKING DAYS after it launches. I've been playing this mod for around three years now and I've never had to actually sign up and say something before. But here I am, under an alias, so I can play in peace if I decide to go back. Before I start, I'd like to state a few observations I've made upon actually playing the game (something I don't believe the current devs actually do anymore)

- Many people state they are unsatisfied with the game post 1.3
- Many veteran players come back, asking if 1.4 is over yet, and then promptly leave when they see the same cancerous garbage (flinch namely) is still in effect
- Nearly everyone is a Bounty Hunter or a Hero

Let's talk about that last bit, shall we? I'll focus on Bounty Hunter. Let's state those advantages over the average class.

- Faster run speed. Free
- Unblockable poison and tracking darts
- The easy to use E-11
- The harder to use but just as effective DLT-20a
- One shot pistol if maxed that you can ALSO take with a one-shot sniper rifle that fires a projectile that takes off more FP than the wrist laser, a weapon DESIGNED for FP draining that many to consider to be a joke weapon due to how bad it is in average gameplay
- A super grenade that can vaporize anything or anyone
- A melee (also jumping if you want) kick that can be used while a weapon is out. Free
- They can roll if they're downed. Free

So that's two instakill guns, multiple knockdown methods, faster default run speed than the entire roster, and physical feats along to go with it. Fair! I have some questions.

- Why are they faster than everyone else if they're supposed to be snipers? Snipers aren't traditionally fast classes, that gives them an insane amount of unjustifiable survivability against Jedi which they already have an entire armory to use against them anyway. If a Jedi gets close to you as a long ranged specialist, you should be dead or at least at a huge disadvantage because you're then in the ring of the close range specialist.

- Why are the poison darts needed anymore? Before it made sense to lower down or halt a Jedi's FP regen through the darts, but now they have such absurdly low FP regeneration that it makes absolutely no sense to have these unless you want to guarantee the BH a free kill. Especially when the Jedi has no way of avoiding it other than jumping which is very easy to wait for them to stop doing. It has perfect accuracy across an entire hallway, can't be blocked, and is (from what I can tell) hitscan? Even Dash for Hero was nerfed because of how impossible it was for Sith to counter with a pistol combo.

- WHY CAN YOU TAKE THE ONESHOT PISTOL AND THE SNIPERS IN THE SAME BUILD? This guarantees you will be a powerhouse not only from long range but from up close, and more often than not I have BHs shoot at me with the proj rifle whilst I'm blocking then just switch to their gay little pistol and walk at me firing until I run out of FP. I can't run or jump away because I'll get shot in the back or I'll just empty my FP by jumping. Before I could attempt to engage them with a lucky jump kick or even a deflect because my FP wasn't laughably bad and there wasn't flinch but now there is almost no way to take them on if they're even remotely decent. You shouldn't be able to have a one shot kill from long range AND a one (or two) shot kill from up close, that's fucking retarded.

- Why can they kick with a weapon out? Simiarly, why can a Bounty Hunter/Hero roll if they get pushed over but not a Mandalorian who are trained warriors and as such are trained in acrobatics?

So let's see what that chalks up to - an extremely squirmy, unreasonably powerful class that does not have particularly hard to use weaponry and functions as a better counter to Jedi than fucking SBDs do. But not only that, their weapons tear through almost every gunner, their speed allows them to escape every single class, and should they run out of darts or heaven forbid ammo they can just switch to a different gun and spam at the Jedi down until they either run out of FP or trigger flinch. And devs refuse to touch it because they're too busy butchering Jedi with flinch, unreasonably low FP regen, no saber perks and now they're even going after push, one of the few things we have left.

Revert Jedi and Sith (better yet the entire game) back to 1.3, please. Maybe even further back. And then take a fucking look at how broken some of the gunner classes are. I didn't have a problem with BHs and Heroes until you slaughtered sabers, now I have no chance against them as a saberist or a gunner unless -- you guessed it -- go Hero or BH myself and get into a gay little sniper war. Fuck that. This kind of blatant gunner (rather, sniper) favoritism is killing the game.

My issue wasn't really specifically with sniper classes being good, but with Bounty Hunter being better than Hero. It'd be a more level playing field I think if Heroes at least got the DLT or another similarly high powered rifle or some other piece of equipment. BH is way more fun and varied to play and stronger to an extent than Hero.

All of the changes that have happened to it have been attempts to make it less easy mode. We're actually finally getting to a point where that's the case (more or less).

No, you're getting to a point where they're completely and utterly gutted. A bad Jedi in previous patches was always a joke to fight, when people who put in the time to learn the class were a serious menace. Now almost any class can fight them easily, and they're almost always guaranteed to get killed in a 2v1 scenario. There's no point in playing them anymore unless you're going to hide behind five gunners and use push occasionally. I agree with making it less easy mode, which is what stuff like the more complicated dueling system and lack of damage reduction did. You were punished more BEFORE if you fucked up, but were rewarded MORE if you were good. Now they're just pushovers.

I disagree, there's a reason I focused on Bounty Hunters and not Bounty Hunters AND Heroes. Quick throw is the mind trick of Heroes, nobody uses it.

I have to agree with Falsetto, Tempest. No amount of Jedi skill will save you now from certain strategies/classes, you're simply screwed. Infact in this patch it is more favorable to brain dead support roles, people that run away and press their push bind keys. Any offensive Jedi get squashed pretty easily regardless of who they are.

Not to mention how much luck there is involved in a saber vs gunner engagement on both sides.

I never said that the current state of saberist is perfect/ideal (quite the opposite actually). The baseline for saberists has always been more faceroll than anything. The recent patches are to get the baseline into a better spot so that tweaks to jedi/sith can actually be used to make it more skillful/rewarding.

A big issue (probably the main one) for balancing Jedi/Sith is that they have access to all of their tools no matter what (and said tools can basically apply to every situation by default). If there were actual trade-offs/exclusivity between some things, it would make it a lot easier to adjust parts of builds and make saberist more fair to play VS while also rewarding smart/tactical usage of what you chose for the round.

I feel like I have a lot of more freedom than I had in the earlier build. If that was one of the goals then, great. Dueling belongs to dueling servers being nimble to open mode.

I only agreed on quick throw being quite useless.

You know the absolute best way to sum up not only a bad patch, but the people who are making these horrid changes? When the official feedback thread is locked NINE FUCKING DAYS after it launches.

I don't get the title of this thread. Who's favoring what?

The feedback thread was locked because I asked, twice, for a certain bullet-pointed format and no discussions, yet what I got were discussions and pissing contests. None of us have time to go around reading post by post to extract useful info and delete the rest because as a community you guys can't follow simple instructions on how we need you to help us with feedback. It takes two to tango: you can either post useful feedback in a helpful format, or you can't. And since you can't, the thread was locked. Simple.

I'll say this again, and I'm sure I'm becoming tiresome, but it seems it needs to be repeated: this attitude of "bad patch, crappy changes, stupid devs, fix this, do that, give us flying pink rancors" is not only continuously demotivating but also beyond tiring at this point. Do we need to keep a log of the hours we spend on MB2 development and contrast that with our rl jobs and commitments for you to understand that voluntary efforts require less nagging and more supporting? Do I need to explain in public how I personally spend hours every day after getting home tired from work dealing with development? That I spend whole weekends on this? How other devs do the same? Why do I need to explain this?

I know it's really not a nice thing to say but "apply and code it yourself if you'd like, while at the same time dealing with everyone's bitching and conflicting wish-lists" seems to be the only answer that I can give to posts like these.

@Tempest is actually putting a lot of time listening and proactively asking for the community's feedback. We need a more structured way of gathering this as it's always spread across a bazillion threads like this, but again, feedback is only helpful when it's given in a nice manner and helpful format.

I mean, as a Jedi (back when I actually managed to have a bit of time to play), I died from getting flinched far too often and joked every single time "flinch is getting removed!". But it's not that simple, and it sure as hell doesn't depend on how I play Jedi. Does it need adjustments? Sure, what doesn't? But these things take testing and effort and will always please someone and enrage someone else. Development is not "ok, this sucks, we'll do it this way, it will be perfect". Far, far from it.

A few new models, map changes, some slight changes to drains and how regen works, really, not much in the end.

To me the gameplay hardly changes. Guns remain point and click, as do sabers even if where to point and when to click varies in each update.

People are drama queens. If it wasn't flinch, it was dmg or it was knockback, etc. You can't satisfy everyone, and just because you have some loud mouths it doesn't mean much to the base. Life goes on, Mb is still here, see you next year:)

flinch is not a problem, having three billion fp taken away from you just because you got shot mid-running trying to close the distance with the gunner is.
Unless jedi/sith ambushes you there's not much they can do, after they get to a gunner it takes one/two flinches and they're out of FP.
I play jedi alot and i started playing BH/Hero alot lately and it's really noticeable. I'm more scared of enemy gunners hitting me than of this big meatbag with a lightstick running at me because i can just shoot him a bunch and he's got no fp before he even gets to me.

It's late so i hope my retarded ramblings are somewhat readable

Thing is that most maps don't have a huge area where you can freely move around and stay out of range of jedi/sith. Most of them have small corridors where you have little time to drain fp and even if you do drain all of his fp you still die because flinch decides not to work.

I don't know why people cry about flinch, as if the saberists are so underpowered. Yesterday I decided to play Jedi, which I do once in a year maybe, so I am a total noob with them, and I had a better score than with Soldier, which I play always.
