I was making an analogy (example? something). The line for acceptable content lies somewhere between scat porn and fluffy kittens. We both agree on that, no?

I doubt that posting edgy memes is going to encourage nazis or racism, its a joke picture, not a thing that should be taken seriously

As I told Helix in Slack earlier, some people do take it seriously. Unfortunately, by posting this sort of stuff, you perpetuate racism. Even assuming the poster of such a thing isn't "actually racist" (which isn't a productive thing to discuss right now, I guess), "actual racists" see this stuff and think that regular people agree with them. Directly invoking Poe's law, how am I supposed to know the difference? If an "actual racist" started posting racist images, what then? I know Europe is at times more isolated from this sort of stuff, but in America we have actual KKK members and NeoNazis marching. They do exist. I'd rather not do things to encourage them.

Sure if you completely ignore the fact that the thread is called "funniest pictures thread" and not "serious political opinions". You know its a joke if its posted in a thread for jokes. No need for someone's personal opinion like it is with "no offensive things" rule because someone drinking milk can be offensive for me. Theres no way to classify what's offensive and what is not.

Posting racist memes encourages racism. It normalizes that behavior as okay to do. See something like Does Racist Humor Promote Racism? for what I'm talking about. Shitty behavior online ends up having real world consequences - even if you yourself are isolated from it, others are not.

Go look at the Blizzard CoC - http://us.battle.net/en/community/conduct - thousands of people post there and other professional game forums without them having to have a free for all section. As I said above, please take this discussion seriously.

You know its a joke if its posted in a thread for jokes. .

The problem is that it wasn't joking at all but mocking with pretty bad vibes of racism and prejudice going on. In a way folks were treating the thread as an outlet for racist and even hateful things that they unwittingly believe in.

Going to try and be communicative here. If this devolves into more shitposting, or it feels like people aren't taking this seriously I'll stop responding.
And we're done here!

No they dont encourage racism or normalize racist behaviour. I know alot of people who laugh at those memes but are not racist at all, like me.
If someone lets memes to change their behaviour irl, they have low brain capacity

What does that have to do with my post? And when exactly did i say we need a free for all section?

The fact that p4kistan is not banned for trolling is the biggest meme on this forum

OK, suppose we had a section of the forum where people could post memes, but there was a "no racism" rule regarding pictures. Is that an OK compromise?

At least from my perspective, there have been a good amount recently that even though I hate the whole SJW/PC culture crap, make me question whether or not they should be allowed pretty hard. Even though I think most of the people are trying to post it to be funny, edgy, whatever, the fact that I even question whether something should be there or not is kind of a red flag for me anyway. Some things have just been too close to that line to distinguish the persons intent, and how people are going to interpret it. Now, a specific area that is locked is a solution I would be okay with for the time being anyway, but I would also like to not have to deal with it at all and IDK if such a section would be opening things up to worse things because of it being "a retched hive of scum and villainy" type section.

2. (...) No doxxing (...)
what if someone leaks source codes?

5. No animated or overly large signatures or avatars.
NOOO NOT THE GIFS
not-the-bees-gif-15.gif

Please however try to refrain from making/posting memes that (...) are likely to devolve into political or philosophical arguments
but half the fun of watching the funny pictures is itching to comment angrily and resisting the temptation
>normies can't into memes

Just stepping in to say - doxxing for any reason will result in permanent ban of the forums. No jokes.

Yes there is.

(like yea obviously nobody on this forum really thinks throwing mixed-race babies off of rooftops is a good idea or that Hitler did nothing wrong) but it's based on an interesting phenomena.

Not so obvious to me.

I know Europe is at times more isolated from this sort of stuff, but in America we have actual KKK members and NeoNazis marching. They do exist. I'd rather not do things to encourage them.

This has nothing to do with location. Fascism and nationalism is on the rise both in the US and in Europe and elsewhere. Saying we can joke about anything and the problem lies with the person not realizing it's a joke and getting offended is just stupid. It's not a joke. If you post a meme about women being dumb and that they should be slaves to men and kept in chains, am I supposed to laugh it off? No, I'll think you must really have something wrong in your head to think that's funny.

History happened. Crimes happen. People get hurt. Racism exists. We cannot laugh it off. If we have been lucky not to be affected, others haven't been. Racism is not ok and encouraging it or normalizing it is not ok.

I could only post from my view as an American though, when I'm being told by some people that this supposedly isn't happening anywhere else. Regardless, I completely agree with you.

It can stay to one or two topics like we had previously. I don't think anyone wants to actually ban all silly memes, just to tone them down a bit. We don't need a whole forum section, though.

Nowadays it's more like making fun of the joke itself, not just laugh at the joke.
If it offends you then the joke has won. Do not let the joke win.
