Simple dumb launcher alternative for linux

I made a shell script that can update the files. It doesn't have (m)any features. It checks urls under http://update.moviebattles.org/lists/ for the md5 hashes of files and downloads the ones where it differs. I guess this is what the launcher do.
It can be useful for small servers, where installing mono is hard.

Dependencies
It needs bash(not sure about other shells) and wget.

Usage
Ignored files (which won't be overwritten when new version is available) can be set at the start of the script.
Add or remove to the lines starting with 'add_to_file_list' to change which filepacks to download.

It has to be run from the directory where openjk lives.
It creates/overwrites files without asking anything, but it doesn't delete files, so files that are not part of mbii or put into the IGNORED_FILES array at the start of the script should be safe.

Every new build is released, a special file for openjk servers is required.

There are some important security fixes that have to be added for regular jampded on Linux. Those break OpenJK compatibility, so a separate compile has to be done without the fixes.

so, i've tried using the launcher with mono-complete

it keeps asking me about the game directory, and when i point it, it asks again, if i refuse, it quits
btw. i've copied some files from my windows installation into some random directory, is there a better way of installing jk3 on linux?

edit: i hope i'm not derailing too much, sorry

I recommend trying the launcher instead of this one. I thought you meant that works for you. You don't need this script, the launcher can download all the needed files for you and maybe even clean the directory from unnecessary files.

About the failed run:

First, don't run the script with root privileges (== with sudo). It can make enough terrible things without it. Actually you shouldn't run anything with sudo unless you know you have to.

I guess it didn't do anything except for maybe creating mbii_update.cache file in the directory from where you ran it. Somehow you don't have a realpath command, and your wget is probably older than mine, missing an option.

so, after applying few changes to the filesystem, the launcher downloaded the files (or at least some of them)
now, every time i press "play", the console says

/bin/bash: / (...) /GameData/mbii.i386: Permission denied

i've alredy chrooted the file, chowned the directory, no idea why it doesn't work
i bet the solution's as simple as renaming 'Base' to 'base'...

It's probably because mbii.i386 is missing execute permission. Launcher forgot to set it.

chmod a+x mbii.i386

is the solution. It adds execute permission(x) for everyone (a). And still don't run software with root permission even if LoU sais it. Linux is not windows, most of the times you don't need it.
