Technical Issue Reconnect crash help

Crash on reconnect/map change on popped servers. At least 70% of join attempts to a well-populated server result in insta-disco, and then I crash after I select reconnect or try to go to main menu.
I have heard that there are options on openJK where this isn't a problem, but openJK doesn't work with the control scheme I've been using for over 10 years. (numpad8, numpad2, numpad6, and numpad4 are recognized as up, down, left, right, respectively, in openJK) No, numlock isn't a solution to this, since I use the shift key.

I am looking for a solution which does not involve changing my control scheme.

This problem of crashes when changing maps or reconnecting on servers full of Movie Battles II (MB2) is very common. It's caused by the original Jedi Academy engine (JAmp.exe) running out of allocated memory (a memory overflow error due to the number of models and textures the mod loads) or a conflict with the community renderer (mme_jamp). Since you don't want to change your OpenJK control scheme, the best solution is to optimize the original executable (Jamp.exe) or adjust the memory parameters. Here are the most effective solutions: 1. The 4GB Memory Patch (Most Likely Solution) The original Jedi Academy executable is a 32-bit program that can only use a maximum of 2GB of RAM, causing crashes on large servers. Download a tool called 4GB Patch (from NTLite or ModDB). Run the tool and select the JAmp.exe file you use to play (located in the GameData folder of your Jedi Academy installation). The patch will modify the executable so that it can use up to 4GB of RAM, which usually eliminates crashes when changing maps.
