Make classic dotf playable again

They've proven they truely don't want it. So no, sorry mate, you're wrong. Its only the vocal 1/20th of the community that wants it. CC managed fine when it was removed, because people truely wanted it. DOTF they clearly dont.
Yes mace only 1/20 wants the old one back.

10,100 unique people played MB2 in August 19th - Sept 19th. Those no votes are 0.46% of the current active population. That isn't even 1/20th (which is 5% btw)

I should have said 1/200th. My bad. I over estimated your numbers.

That is one load of horse crap. There are plenty of people who give a large amount of caring to MB2, but never touch the forums at all. There are so many people that message me about various issues and feedback outside of the forums. I would honestly say those people care more because they try to handle the problem directly and without just trying to cause shit.

That is really not fair to them at all.

The compromise might be to name the map something like mb2old_dotf such that players are hinted that the map is old, not supported, and might have bugs

This is what we would do. We've already said it would simply be mb2_dotf_classic like the rest of the classic maps. Where the problem comes in, wasn't because something was specifically done to destroy the old map, but because they use some of the same assets. Assets that I upgraded late in the process, or plan on upgrading but didn't have the time to move them into my amace_dotf texture/shader files. So they're stuck in their old shaders and textures without being cleaned up. None of the changes were destructive as they can still technically function. You don't gain any issues with the new/updated assets unless you recompile the old map which doesn't need to be done if you're just chucking it in. But the more intertwined they are, the more problematic it is for us and for replacements. (Remember castle of the damned DOTF texture replacement that people like a lot?)

Either way, I spent about 3 hours last night separating the assets. Not quite done yet but its progress. I didn't have time for it on initial release and I planned to do it at the end of the whole process like I initially said. Either way nothing destructive was done as they can still function. Just will cause problems down the line and best to fix it before restoring it again.

If people are dunking on it, find out why people are, and take it to heart. You aren't going to improve as a designer if you sit in an echo chamber, thinking that you aren't wrong.

As I have already done. I admitted almost immediately that there was a good chunk of the map that needed work after release. Did some quick changes, released again, did more changes, released again. I have more changes scheduled here: Trello which over 75% of them are ideas from the community. The only people saying we are in an echo chamber are the ones not paying attention or have an agenda.

The team can't take criticism at all

Let me stop you right there. We take our share of criticism about our work, our results, how we go about doing things and so on. No one has a problem with being criticised or taking on board negative feedback. No one has ever got kicked or banned for just giving negative feedback, and no one ever will.

Personal attacks are not negative feedback. Threats are not negative feedback. Name calling is not negative feedback. Repeating the same genuine negative feedback every day for 6 months is not negative feedback. These are all harassment and you bet your ass you'll get a ban for persistently doing it. It's easy to know the difference. If you are talking solely about the work and methodology in producing it then it is feedback. If you are negatively talking about the developer who did it then it is probably harassment.

Feedback - good and bad is encouraged. Certain members of the community need to learn that once they have given their feedback constantly reminding developers of that feedback isn't useful. And escalating from criticism to harassment in some effort to sway a person is certainly not useful. No ones going to be bullied into doing anything they weren't going to do.

No one's "harassing" anyone. The point of this thread is just to let you all know we want old DOTF back.

I was only responding to that one part of Eez's message. Its important that people done believe the BS that some people are peddling about why people pick up infractions or get banned from discord. They don't tell the whole truth.

Sorry, but in my experience it is just straight-up not true that (all of) the developers are capable of handling criticism in any capacity, or able to respond appropriately when someone delivers them even a slight ego hit.

On October 19th 2017, someone highlighted me on the Discord saying "wow, I had no idea that eezstreet had made this mod" (in reference to JKG). Mace responded by saying "eezstreet didn't make that mod" and I responded by calling him ignorant and linked all of the commits that I made to the project. He said that I was simply "rewriting Boba Fett's code." and then kicked me, and then when I rejoined, he kicked me again. Several of my messages were deleted as well. This continued over 20 times (I lost count, to be honest). I protested this and a bunch of people spammed the server with "#freezstreet" Eventually this culminated with him demanding that I remove all of the content that he made from Jedi Knight Galaxies (going so far as to list every PK3 in the mod that had his content). I then told another developer (Subaru, I think?) about the situation, and they removed the ability for Mace to kick people temporarily so that I could join the server.

This is not harassment on my part - he made a claim and I defended myself. If anything, this is harassment on his part. Yes, I called him ignorant, but he was accusing me of plagiarizing JKG, which is demonstrably false, and therefore I can consider it accurate that he is ignorant of the situation. See this thread and this thread - these are all things that have been developed by myself, Darth Futuza, and NubSmoo for the most part.

Mace posted in the JKCommunity on July 11th, 2017, complaining about how the PVS visibility system in JA was causing him issues at the time. PVS is a system where only entities that are in the same room as the player (or visible by means of an open door) are networked and visible. He said that the system was "stupid and outdated" among other things, and I commented that the system is perfectly designed for interior levels, and is in fact used by engines such as Unreal 4 because it's ideal for these kind of restricted environments. His response was to mock me and call me a "master level designer" sarcastically.

For several weeks afterwards, he kept posting pictures of what he perceived to be PVS errors in maps, highlighting me in the process. It got bad enough that he was dragging fights out into other channels. I had been in an argument with Mace on the forums (see this thread) regarding the technical details of JA's PVS optimization system on the forums, and he kicked me from the Discord, without either of us saying a word to each other. Admittedly it was a rather dumb argument, and I shouldn't have wasted time on it, but there's some background to the argument which I think is particularly key.

On another occasion, in January of 2018, a new player stumbled into the JKCommunity Discord, and was asking me what people were playing. I think this exchange speaks for itself.

He stopped talking after this point after realizing that I wasn't responding to him. I warned Wolfeye, the head administrator at the time, to keep an eye on his behavior. Wolfeye approached him and he left the server. The following screenshots are mod reactions, in the private administrator chat.

Now I'll admit that my hands aren't entirely clean here, and I've done some pretty unsavory stuff in the past, but to say that developers only respond harshly when they've been poked at with a stick for ages is not the truth at all. Sometimes they're just looking for a fight. There's ten pages worth of people talking about how they want to see classic DOTF get added. The consensus here seems to be that classic DOTF should get added back. My question is, why not add it? If the understanding is that the old map is unsupported and not worth including (in your opinion), then why not just add a section to the launcher for old versions of maps? Then people can play mb2old_whatever maps, and it's completely optional content. Win-win. I daresay that there's lower quality content that's included with the game (like um_ packs for e.g.) already, not sure why a map with broken textures is necessarily out of the norm.

I think if you (not you specifically, just people in general) are giving people feedback which isn't constructive, then you shouldn't be giving it, easy as that. If you can't say "well, I would rather do it this way..." then don't say it at all. I think that was the point that I was trying (but failing) to communicate in the second part of that point.

That's not all that was going on, and you know it. Additionally this was not being kicked over providing feedback. I fail to see the relevance to your initial statement other than a continued effort on your part to try and cast the team in a negative light as are evidenced by all your following screenshots. Bit of an own goal there my friend.

The example you provide is an example of such prodding. As you have laid it out it isn't acceptable moderation, the problem is how you have laid it out isn't what went down.

First off its not 10 pages, a lot of this stuff is off topic. Secondly we hear the feedback and Mace and I were discussing it last night. Neither of us object, Mace even said it will happen in the next year, at this point in time its a matter of scheduling and having the time to work on, update and test it.

See this is part of the problem. This is nothing but an cynical attempt to take Mace down by rewriting history and showing your chosen excerts which you have gone out of you way to preserve until an opportunity to post them emerges. You paint Mace as some sort of enforcer who will go around banning anyone who says a bad word about the MBII Team. Well look at the discord, look at the posts on this forum. Many of them say bad things about us and very few are met with even an infraction. Look on discord at the people who were saying "Gas Stassin" a few months ago who aren't banned. Careful Eez. Your bias is showing. Oh, and for the record you kicked out of the MBII team once (Only two people have had that honour, anyone remember Dacks.), and quit the second time mere minutes before you were kicked out again, for leaking team conversations and trash talking the team.

Honestly this thread has run its course. We hear you about DOTF classic. We don't plan on leaving you hanging.
