I tried googling it and I found the Server Setup Thread. I think I can figure that out. Just curious about two things.

Is it possible to host a server unlisted? To avoid DDOS? Is there any DDOS protection anyone is aware of that helps mitigate those issues?

Do I need permission to host a public server?

P.S. Eventually I want to host my coop map if I ever get it done, but for now I want to host a server for CA

Yes. Run the server with +set dedicated 1 in launch parameters.

For DDOS protection, I suggest using a host. I highly recommend Asutech.io. You can run your own protection but this costs way more than just renting from a host.
