Reshade - SweetFX for MBII/JKA

Hey there! I remember posting this around a year ago under different alias. However, I've Improved it over time while trying out different combinations.

What it does? Basically it injects more "graphic options" into your game, it's a bottle of water in the desert in this case since MBII uses a rather old engine with limited graphic options avaliable.

Features :
-FXAA : Lightweight anti-aliasing.And yes, it works! JKA/MBII doesn't feature anti-aliasing, while forceable by GPU controlpanel, it is more performance costy and less likely to work.
-Bloom : Stronger, wider lightsources.Recommended to use with Dynamic lightning, dynamic glow and light flares.
-White/Black range enhancement : It makes it possible for 'too bright' whites/places to appear different than other white/places.In other words Bright places are now brighter, like bloom, it is to enhance the looks of lightning.
-Contrast : MBII/JKA looks dull overall.Contrast highlights textures, dark/bright spots better, creating a more realistic lightning feeling.
-Saturation : Most of the textures used in maps are dull, washed out in comparison to character textures. While I didn't go far with saturation, it does a decent job make textures look more natural.

"Words are winds", see it in action for yourself below! :) (also FAQ section @ bottom)

Download : http://puu.sh/m0mAG/c5b10efe7c.zip

Let me know if the link doesn't work for you, I'm not fond of "wait 1 minute to download" websites, so I just puushed it.

Installation : Extract the ZIP file to any folder, run the ReShade Setup.exe , choose OPENGL, point to to GameData/Jamp.exe

What about the preset? I've modified the default preset, so it will actually install my preset along with the program itself.

Removal : It is very easy.
If you have to remove SweetFX for any reason, delete the files below from your Gamedata folder.

fff83934eb.png

Tweaking : If you ever feel like the Contrast, saturation is not right or if you want to turn off some settings,

Gamedata\SweetFX\SweetFX settings.txt <-- Open this file up.1 Means on, 0 means off

Detailed tweaking can be done for each setting, when you scroll down the file.

NOTE
: This is my preference of brightness. If this looks too dark/bright for you, just adjust brightness in-game from setup > more video to whatever is comfortable for you.
NOTE2 : I might have 10-20 FPS in some screenshots due to REPEATEDLY taking of many screenshots at the same time.

Notice : You can press SCROLL LOCK to toggle it off/on in-game to see the difference.

FAQ :
Will this destroy my FPS?
I haven't noticed more than 1-2 fps (out of 120) change. This Modification uses GPU AND MBII/JKA is bottlenecked by CPU. (as in your FPS is limited by your CPU's single core frequency, not GPU's strength)
This means, unless you have some 2005-era GPU, no it won't change your FPS noticeably since your GPU is sitting idly most of the time compared to your CPU.

It's too dark/bright:

Refer to "NOTE : This is my preference of brightness. If this looks too dark/bright for you, just adjust brightness in-game from setup > more video to whatever is comfortable for you."

My game doesn't look like it is in screenshots!
As suggested @ bloom description, turn on dynamic lights, dynamic glow and light flares. You can turn the skybox off to save some FPS if those settings are too costy for you, skyboxes are most of the time almost invisible to you anyway (e.g. you barely see it in DOTF until you get to balcony)

This doesn't work on Steam, help me!

Unfortunately my game is non-steam and the only solution so far, is to launch the game without steam OR disable 'in-game overlay' <--- [done so by right clicking on JKA in your steam library > properties > untick 'Enable in-game overlay'

Does it work with/without launcher?
Yes, it works with or without the launcher.I use launcher myself, though I did not fail to uses sweetFX before launcher was out even

Further questions? Reply below and I'll answer best I can.

Gonna try that :) Smooth mb2, that's a new one. For sure it will be another perk for jaMME :)

Can you adjust the values in this? I feel that the contrast is too high and bloom burns out colours effectively losing detail. Just simple saturation adjustments with slight contrast tweaks would be perfect to make the game beautiful in my eyes.

Once I get my new build this will definitely be on the top of my list of JKA/MB2 downloads.

So basically it's the bloom effect only, nothing more special. Eh.

In gamedata > sweetFX > Sweetfxsettings.txt

You can turn them off by changing the 1 with 0, descriptions pretty much explain everything you need to know inside the file.

There are detailed tweaking when you scroll down the text file, so you can adjust contrast there

As for losing detail, you could keep bloom on, but reduce it's strength to 0.8 or so.You can find bloom strength setting if you scroll down.

So basically it's the bloom effect only, nothing more special. Eh.

It has Anti aliasing, textures look more lively due to saturation and contrast aswell as whites now being brighter.

You should give it a try nevertheless, I'm going to update the OP with instructions on how to remove it.
The program is overall light on resource usage so see how it does for you

Edited OP on instructions for removal, it's pretty much deleting 2 files and a folder so no sweat on that part should you want to give it a try.

I want refund.
My laptop exploded.

You're welcome mate, every gamer should have a desktop not laptop ;)

@HuntresS thanks

Saturation and contrast affect the whole screen, how is it related to textures? You just like some post-process filters above the screen (hi instagram), someone doesn't like those. That's all. They do not change textures at all.
I do like the actual colours, the actual contrast and brightness (default ones). They all are fine in game right now imo.
AA could be enhanced by changing certain bits in GPU for certain processes if necessary - so you are available to change it w/o the extension.
Bloom if fancy yeah, and actually enhances something.

Isn't that what a shader is?? That's what it's advertised as :p

Yes, not directly, via filters with some of them acting like a filter on your screen.Though the results are there and it makes an obvious difference.

As for AA, I don't know on nvidia's part but some older AMD cards doesn't support MLAA - atleast via it's own control panel - Which is kinda like AMD's version of FXAA.And this is where it comes handy, plus FXAA is the least costy AA around and we very well know most folk here has 'out-of-date' computers that would have performance issues if enforcing MSAA/SMAA via control panel.

We've all have our opinions, for example Ben didn't take bloom and went with the rest.
Anyway rather than speculating whether bloom "actually does something", download it, disable effects that aren't bloom and so then it becomes useful feedback.

Yeah, it is what I was talking about - just some overlay on the screen.
No, thank you, I have my own better enhancements.

Nowhere.

Brw, @Orion, your modification adds overlay for the 2d stuff too (as I see FPS counter is also got changed) and that's not cool.

I don't quite understand why you even bother with this shader suite, while you have one that is better as you say, or even to talk about it and not share.
