    AI Usage
    Moviebattles II as a software application has been made exclusively by real human beings since 2004. As with any technological endeavor new tools and techniques should be leveraged where they are appropriate and in circumstances where their use may be controversial should be done with full transparency.

    Moviebattles II will continue to be developed by real human beings, and where exceptions to this happen they will be transparently listed in this file, along with a technical justification of why this happened. The current places where tools which today would be called 'Generative AI' have been used in moviebattles II are as follow:
    • A small number of old skyboxes saved at a low resolution with high compression have been upscaled - This would not be possible with other tools
    • The Universal Grenade Launcher - This was partially developed using generated AI code. This principally served as an experiment to see what the tools could and could not do for us.
  • New: Classic Siege Mode: The base JKA have been updated for MB2 to use the CTF respawn system complete with FAs inspired by the original teams.
    • The following maps: mb2_siege_hoth, mb2_siege_desert, mb2_siege_korriban, and mb2_siege_destroyer, have been reworked from base mp/siege_hoth, mp/siege_desert, mp/siege_korriban, and mb2_veh_destroyer aka mp/siege_destroyer respectivly. TLDR: base ammo and shield batteries have been replaced with MB2 style resupply points while base health replenishment stations have been removed.
  • !spin
    • New: Suicide variant: Whistling Bird (of Death)
    • Change: Wild Tauntaun changed to Reek.
    • Change: Minimum !spin speed increased from 90 to 130, max speed decreased from 390 to 350.
    • Change / Fix: Fixes for Melee specials in Open Mode, such as Jedi getting their Repulse replaced on CS1.
    • Fix: Can no longer !spin a Grappling Hook if you have no Resource.
    • Fix: Flechette/Repeater/DEMP2 sec-fires adjusted to align with MB_ATT changes, granting 4 blasts per level.
  • New: Emote Wheel Menu: Unlike MBII players themselves, MBII characters now have access to a complex range of emotions. Emote Wheel can be rebound via ESC > SETTINGS > CONTROLS > OTHER.
  • Change: Reloading now breaks the respawn invulnerability bubble. (Mainly impacting PLX-1)
  • Change: Traditional Bowcaster projectile restored to base efx.

Open
  • Jedi
    • New: Force Stasis
      • Stasis is a defensive control Force Power that creates a bubble which freezes all incoming projectiles. Projectiles that enter the area of effect will jitter in place until Stasis has ended, or the user's Force Points are depleted, upon which they will continue their current trajectory. Stasis can also be interrupted by the user's Force Push (requires level 3 Push and level 3 Stasis), which throws the suspended projectiles back. 10 FP is drained upon activation, FP ticks down per 250 ms, and 5 FP is drained per projectile caught. Stasis does not affect players.

    • New: Force Dark Rage
      • Dark Rage is a selfish line-breaking Force Power. Upon activation, the user begins to lose HP. While active, user gains Force Points, HP, and movement speed per kill. If the user has killed at least one enemy when Dark Rage was active, they will regenerate HP back. Each tick is 750 ms. Active Dark Rage increases base movement speed by 10%. Each kill with Dark Rage active increases movement speed an additional 10% up to a maximum 50% bonus.

    • Goal is to get the player familiar with Dueling controls and mechanics.
    • Upon performing some kind of mechanic (Perfect Block, for example), player receives explanatory pop-up.

      Rebel team: Obtain the security keycard -> deliver it to the control room -> hack the control room panel -> place a bomb at main data storage and wait until detonation (every point is marked with help icons)
      Imperial Team: Defend the security keycard and the control room, if Rebels placed a bomb Imperials must defuse it.

    • HELD_PULL Sends the target towards the origin from where they were damaged. Disables knockback.
    • HELD_CRIPPLE Causes the target to move at 75% speed. Lasts 2s.
    • HELD_FORCEFOCUS to cause the target to lose their Force Block levels for few seconds. Also builds up some ticks of Force Focus on them for the attacker.
    • HELD_LIFESTEAL A hit on a target heals the attacker 30% of damage dealt.
    • HELD_FLASH Causes the target to go Blind for 2 seconds.
    • HELD_BACTA Provides 4 seconds of healing (5HP per second) to teammates. Does no damage to them. WILL damage enemies unless otherwise modified (will not heal them).
    • HELD_NODISARM User holding a weapon with this can not get their weapon Pulled or Disarmed (except with Saber v Saber interactions).
  • New: Pet System & NPC Control
    • Related to Spawner Item and MB_ATT_SPAWNER or spawnerNPC .mbch field.
    • Characters can now have their own pets from the NPC they spawn. Allowing them to see:
      • Health of their Pet
      • State of their Pet ( Attacking / Returning / Following ... )
      • Distance from their Pet
    • They can also control their own pet, and use its own kit.
    • A placed assault sentry item is also a valid pet.
    • attribute MB_ATT_PETCONTROL, special EAS_HI_PETCONTROL
  • New: Personal Energy Shield item. When activated, reduces incoming damage by 50% for 20 sec. Melee, Disruptor, Ion, Poison, and Pulse damage types bypass this resistance. The PES has only 20% protection against Projectile Rifle shots. The character attribute is MB_ATT_PSHIELD and the class special assignment is EAS_HI_PSHIELD.
  • New: MB_CLASS_BATTLEDROID, a new FA only class (for now) for humanoid droids. The class is immune to Poison, Sonic, and Locational Damage, as well as drowning. However, it takes 5x damage from Ion and Pulse weapons if it doesn't have the Battery Resource to mitigate the overload.
  • New: .mbch parsable fields:
    • spinEnabled 1/0 in classInfo to give options to disable !spin from class entirely.
    • bargeAnim BOTH_... to set custom animation of the Skill Barge.
    • petCamShader [ SHADERPATH ] allows for overriding new pet camera shader.

    • Now prints all invalid flags / attributes / specials during parsing for easy fixes.
    • Overall size limit increased from 8192 to 16384.
    • Introduced following limits:
      • per ForceInfo has to be <2048 chars
      • per WeaponInfo has to be <4096 chars
      • ClassInfo has to be <8192 chars
      • Parsed key (MB_ATT_...|MB_ATT..) must be <2048 chars

  • Change: The number of grenades fired by Flechette alt-fire volleys is governed by MB_ATT_FLECHETTE_ALT_NUM. 1-5, default of 2.
  • Change: Stun Baton altfire RoF slowed from 1000 to 1500. Stun Baton level 2/3 primary
  • electrical stun time lengthened from 700 to 1650.
  • Change: Amban level 3 primary RoF slowed from 1000 to 2000.
  • Change: HELD_PULSE Pulse weapon flag electrical stun time decreased from 1800 to 1650.
  • Change: All classes can pick up weapons unless CFL_NOPICKUPS is set.
  • Change: MB_ATT_CLOAK has been reworked.
    • Higher levels no longer affect the rate it uses your class Resource.
    • If you get electrified with an active Cloak, your cloak will be disabled for 6 seconds.
    • If you take damage while Cloaked, your class Resource drains faster.
    • Cloak will automatically decloak if running, attacking, using an item, or force power. Level 2 Cloak allows running while Cloaked. Level 3 Cloak allows everything like it used to.
  • Change: Detpack sec-fire, Cloak, NPC Spawner, Seeker, Defense Drone, Shock Field, Force Team Heal, Force Team Energize, Force Protect, Force Absorb, and Force Heal all have activation animations added or had their existing ones changed.

  • Fix: / Change: Cannot use items while operating a turret.

  • - Change: DC-15 Carbine, E-22, Bryar Pistol, Imperial Repeater, DEMP2, Flechette, and PLX-2M Missile Launcher now use their standalone versions instead of being overrides of pre-existing Open Mode weapons.
    - Change: Usage of the vanilla Stun Baton as a melee weapon in most FAs replaced with the standalone Stun Baton at varying levels, exceptions being Yavinassault, uM Spice & Powerbattles III.
    - Change: Universal Grenade Launcher added to several uMad FAs & PB2 that once used Westar M5s exclusively locked to Nade Launcher.

Hello everyone,
with this patch release, I consider myself fully drained and overworked. I have dedicated hours of my time every single day for MBII development to ensure I can push out as many of my fixes and as many of my features as fast as possible to you, the playerbase. Consider this as my announcement of quitting development.

Whether you like me or not, whether you like the development team or not, I can say this as someone who has seen every side of this community: I was a player, a troll, a hater, a beta tester, and eventually a developer. I can assure the community that the current MBII Team is genuinely trying its best to deliver frequent and stable updates. R22 is the biggest patch since R20, and we put our hearts into making it happen.

Initially, I thought I would continue overseeing Dueling until a suitable replacement was found. That would have meant reviewing any suggested changes to ensure that, after my departure, Dueling wouldn't immediately be pushed in a completely different direction. My goal has always been to stabilize and refine the gameplay by building upon this version of Dueling rather than constantly reworking it.

Whether my work is remembered positively or negatively is ultimately up to the players. It is now up to the community to identify what works, what does not, and to provide constructive feedback to any future developer who chooses to work on Dueling. All I've wanted to avoid is the development chaos that older players have already seen in this game, and know how negatively it impacted Dueling as a whole.

Regarding my individual work, I'm satisfied with what new opportunities, and stability improvements I have brought to the gameplay and modding capabilities of this game. Be it UI / HUD modding, FA features, NPC dueling and NPC features, and potentially surprising future in a whole new direction. There are also several projects that I unfortunately didn't get to finish in time. But they are accessible for any other developer to look at, and finish its implementation if desired. These projects include:
  • Brand new Library menu with modern design, focusing on Wiki-like references, cinematics, images, and out-of-code values for stuff like Weapon Damage, in order to ensure it'll always be relevant.
  • Rushed out and rough concept of the M3 Bulwark Shield, covering ur back while holstered and whatnot.
  • Gigantic workspace of Singleplayer stuff, which features implementation of lots of SP entities and importantly cinematics. This is the key if we ever want to achieve JKA SP / Missions being playable in MBII.
  • Wheel Menu support that can easily be transferred to other game stuff, such as Lightsaber style selection, which is also included in code already.
  • HUD "Class Help" menu that would display the description of all your class specials and weapons after pressing F1
  • 90% finished system similar to old custom models, but for clientsided custom sabers without the need of replacing existing ones.
  • Integrated RTV
As for the Library project, I still hope to continue working on it from time to time whenever circumstances allow. I understand how much interest there is in such a feature, and I would like to see it become a reality.

I've already prepared some smaller stuff that could go into a new patch, which would allow the development of MBCH files be much more productive.

Regardless of what happens next, I'm grateful for the opportunity to have contributed to a game that has been a part of my life for many years. I hope the work I've done serves as a solid foundation for whoever picks it up next.

If you are not privy to beta/dev goings-on you might not grasp the full extent of Leons' contributions. But the guy routinely pulled miracles, cleaned up a bunch of boring messes, left us a lot of toys to play with, and really truly cared. Thanks for your time bro.

As is customary when a contributor leaves Leons will be painlessly euthanized IRL, this time by my hands personally

Amazing thing! Can be qutie useful, though I feel it reaaally lacks separate counters for PBed openers and PBed chained swings, that would be very informative, and I hope this is possible to implement
Perhaps the default show time of 6500 ms is a bit too short, but that is not critical
Hope the hotfixes with the textbox adjustments are on the way too! Especially for those using vertical HUD
