is there anyway that i can host a small server for just 2 friends? Ive been trying through gameranger and that hasnt been working, are there any other ways?

ideally i would like to be playing on mustafar with them, and not running a dedicated server, although that may be neat to know how to do for future
Did you try with the main menu? Play -> Create. Others can connect if they know your ip unless you set a password in advanced settings.
To connect they should write
into the console (SHIFT+ESC).
You have to allow connections to UDP port 29070. In other words persuade your firewall to allow it and if you have a router forward the port.
