Honestly, that doesn't make much sense. I ask for demos because they are so much better at describing someone's style than just text. To understand your opponent it might be a good idea to rec some demos and watch them. By carefully analyzing your mistakes you can later work on them. Probably...

Also, bout combo speeds: If my calculations is right, then they are not exactly the same speed, but very close to each other. Somewhere around 300 - 350 msec, I guess. It's not like 50 msec can make a huge difference, really.

You mean crouching kata aka twirl? But it's fairly easy to punish! As soon as it starts rush just a bit backwards to avoid spinning blade(s), circle around the opponent and slice him in the back. Actually, because of that dual and staff twirls are kinda considered risky.

It's not clear if all special moves are katas, or it's just some sertain special moves are katas, and others are not. So it feels kinda misleading, and I'm not really sure which special moves you meant by saying "katas". Ehh.. Overall, I dislike only forward staff butterfly, other special moves...

You have the point here, MB2 combat system can be confsuing to say the least. I can definitely remember my frustration back when I was a newbie.
