They are rare as is if you git gud. ;) Knockdowns are a nice tool for creating tension. Good gameplay needs low points as much as it needs high points. The joy you get from a game stems from overcoming these low points. Rather than removing them and making the game more bland, I find it to be a...

    Basic Gameplay & Core Mechanics

I suspect the meta would shift significantly depending on how this is handled. The big advantage would be giving players more movement. This reduces the frustration factor slightly as it reduces the player's lack of control in a knockdown situation. I thinkt it could be a beneficial feature.

MBII frag video - The Butterfly Effect

How did you do some of the free cam shots that blend together? Matching the angle for both demos seems like a lot of work.

    Basic Gameplay & Core Mechanics

Nice and thought out post! The movement suggestions in particular sound really good. I would note that it would be cool to keep the coinflip animation in place for mid-air getups. Bringing getup rolls to most classes could be nice. I would probably adjust that rule slightly, so that it only...

    Favoritism

Yeah, it's essentially all about identifying the build the SBD is using. Cortosis builds will be lacking in other departments. It is not out of the question to fall back and wait for some gunner support. Act as a distraction while your gunners shoot the SBD down. In general Cortosis can be worn...

    [EXPIRED] 999 ping spikes

I would not be surprised if your ping gets about 5-20ms lower if you use cable. So latency ought to improve without a doubt. Example: On my desktop that is hooked to the modem -> 70-80ms on BG On my laptop that is hooked to the wifi -> 80-90ms on BG

    [EXPIRED] 999 ping spikes

Packet loss and latency. You can get a significantly better online experience especially in games that have bad packet loss handling if you use a wire. When playing modern games you'll probably notice less issues, but they're still there. Masked by the engine to make your user experience look...

    [EXPIRED] 999 ping spikes

You've done the typical networking improvements right? /snaps 40 /cl_maxpackets 100 /rate 25000 These should ensure your game is taking in as much data as it can. Once these configurations are in place though, the problem must be somewhere beyond MB2. If it does not help, try playing with a...

The Unskilled Argument and the Intricacies of Balance

I am not. I am making it an example of the importance of synergy/counter picks that stems from RPS aspects. A team with pure Genjis was shit tier when faced against a team that had a standard comp. Blizzard received a lot of complaints about Quick Play being too random and introduced 1-per hero...

    how do you pronounce dotf

Glad to see muh memes getting use <3 I pronounce it in two ways depending on what language I speak. English: "Dahtf" Finnish: "Dotf" Related article: Urban Dictionary: rat race Emancipate yourselves! Jah rastafari! MB2_Lunarbase will set you free.

The Unskilled Argument and the Intricacies of Balance

Skill is currently a very strong deciding factor. A high tier single-life soldier will wipe the floor with any low tier player of any class. Even further I would say that rock paper scissors is very much valid design for asymmetric games. This breeds variety and makes more things viable. Let's...

The Unskilled Argument and the Intricacies of Balance

I agree completely with NPC. From a player's perspective, it should be about finding tools to win and using those tools to win. Gitting gud is the only way to thrive as a player. After playing Starcraft for quite some time, I managed to adopt this mentality. None of my losses are the fault of...

    Soldier close combat revisited.

Stim sounds like a fun idea! You could even do something like what Starcraft 2 does with marines, where you sacrifice 10 HP to use Stim, but the upside is that you can use it as much as you like. The downside is that it kills you eventually. Though that does sound more like a villain thing...

    Soldier close combat revisited.

It was a lot of fun to use. The big problem was that it was very strong when there was a single ET and multiple soldiers with CC2. This would be offset by increasing point cost for CC2 to around 10-12 as opposed to the old 6. This is the kind of stuff I'm very interested in testing out at the...

    Soldier close combat revisited.

I think it should indeed be brought back. It was only truly potent in conjunction with Rally boost. This made Rally a really interesting mechanic. Now we see far less Rally play. Perhaps I'd adjust it slightly by making Rally speedboost weaker for CC2 solds than what it was rather than removing...

It Seems the mod is somewhat Dead after v1.4.5

This is a fun thread. What people are noticing is the summer. Turns out it's sunny outside, people are off of school and work. Are you going to play MB2 or go on holiday abroad, chase poontang and enjoy the weather? I've been here for 11 years. A post like this is an annual summertime...

    Projectile Rifle

If I recall correctly Projectile Rifle deals a maximum of 150 base damage. Toning this down to 140ish could be sufficient nerf without making the gun feel significantly less impactful. It will not stop headshots from killing, but it will greatly lessen damage received from non-headshots. This...

    Favoritism

Flinch feels like a nice mechanic. It's not as punishing as high damage, full stagger or heavy knockback. It's a very nice middle ground. In most situations where you run the risk of getting flinched, you can give swingblocking a chance and it will increase your survivability, slow you down, but...
