Launcher game wont launch

howdy. ive encountered an issue where the game wont start from the launcher. whenever i press PLAY the button reacts as if the game is going to launch but nothing happens. I have tried restarting my pc, verifying jka game files, reinstalling jka and mb2, deleting all previous game data, repairing installation, changing game engines, running the launcher as admin, and scanning jka files with anti virus to see if maybe my computer started quarantining files, but the launcher still just wont work. i've looked around the forums for a bit and i cant find anything thats helped. also worth noting that i dont get any kind of error message or pop-up from trying to launch the game.

im out of ideas at this point and i need some help. thanks

When you tried different engines, did you make sure to turn off steam integration?

Did you try clearing launcher configuration files (the ones in appdata/local/Movie_Battles_Team)?

the launcher settings dont let me change the engine without turning off steam integration, so thas a yes.

as for clearing the launcher configuration files, the only file in that location is MBIILauncher.exe_StrongName_hgtezac2rwxzayx0osik14kjyaxfpobp

should i get rid of this?

If all is working correctly that should be a folder with another subfolder within it and a configuration file within that. It is where settings are stored.

I'm a little curious when you list running launcher as admin as something you've tried, as that's the default. Do you normally run with a non-privileged Windows account or have UAC turned off?

There's some kind of edge case here so I'm grasping at straws for something. The launcher silently failing to start the game when you hit play makes me think there's some kind of permissions issue or another application getting in the way. Can you post a launcher log file?

I have tried restarting my pc, verifying jka game files, <...> repairing installation, changing game engines, running the launcher as admin, and scanning jka files with anti virus
It's good you've tried that all, but...
I have tried <...> reinstalling jka and mb2, deleting all previous game data
that was just a waste of time and data. No idea why people do love reinstalling everything and deleting all their configs and data so much.

Anyway, try executing file "Jedi Academy\GameData\Play_MBII_CustomOJK.bat" and tell us what exactly happens.

Also, this:
the launcher settings dont let me change the engine without turning off steam integration, so thas a yes.
does not make crystal clear have you tried running BOTH engines, jamp and MBII Client.
If you didn't, try them both and post is there any difference.
Do you get any error messages when you're clicking 'Play' after you switched the engine, or do they both fail silently?

i tried both engines, and it seemed to have no effect on trying to launch the game; they both fail silently. as for clearing data and reinstalling the programs... lol it seemed like a good idea at the moment.

anyways, executing Jedi Academy\GameData\Play_MBII_CustomOJK.bat opened the mod like it normally would if it was functioning... does this mean there is no issue in the first place..?

being honest im not completely sure what a launcher log file is. below is a copy of the text doc found at "Jedi Academy\GameData\mb2 stuff\MBII_Launcher\AutoUpdateLogs":

does this mean there is no issue in the first place..?
There is definitely an issue with a folder called 'mb2 stuff' inside of GameData. Why does it even exist at the first place? :/
Delete it. Place Mbiilauncher.exe directly into GameData and nowhere else.
You're supposed to have 'base', 'MBII', 'mbii_launcher' inside of GameData, and NO 'mb2 stuff'.
You must not create folder on your own inside of GameData.
You must not mess with a default folder structure of base ja, as well as with folder structure made by mbii launcher.
Then go to mbii Launcher's settings and make sure that path is set exactly to GameData, not any subfolder. Not 'mbii', not 'mbii_launcher', just GameData.

as you can probably tell im not the greatest with software lol. i fixed the folder issue but the main problem still persists. i should note however that i created that folder after my launcher stopped working, so it can't be the source of the issue.

MBII Launcher => Settings => check "Enable logging" => Repair installation.
Post latest log from "Jedi Academy\GameData\MBII_Launcher\logs" here (yes I need a newer log).

Post a screenshot of GameData folder, where all files could be seen.
Post a screenshot of MBII Launcher's settings.

Dear devs, care to explain why the hell forums preventing users from posting replies???!!!
I asked Zarko to post screenshots, but as you can see, he didn't post anything yet, even though it's been a while.
Turned out his post, where he attached required pictures, were put into something called 'awaiting moderator approval', and you guys didn't care to approve it!
Luckily, I and Zarko are on the same Discord server, so I accidentally found out why there are no new replies from him in this thread.

This is unacceptable.
This isn't the first time recently when you're messing with Discord and forums settings, making Support section harder to use for unexperienced users, creating unnecessary obstructions.
So why do you hate Support so much?! Why do we need all these changes that confuse players who come to official MBII resources to get help with technical issues?
I really hope that this whole 'awaiting moderator approval' stupid thing is purely an accident and it's caused by your obvious incompetence with forums software (just like it was with uploading permissions in Discord earlier), not by intentional actions, and will be completely disabled ASAP.

I really hope that this whole 'awaiting moderator approval' stupid thing is purely an accident and it's caused by your obvious incompetence with forums software (just like it was with uploading permissions in Discord earlier), not by intentional actions, and will be completely disabled ASAP.

the worst thing they could have done,it already takes them about 6 months to read a beta application, imagine having to approve messages on forums

We read beta applications the day they go up. Voting takes place once a month. getting NDAs sent, accounts created for repositories, permissions granted, etc. takes longer.'

As said on discord, this looks like something triggered the spam filter. Hopefully it can be resolved to not happen again.

why is there an awaiting moderator approval thing now? didn't have an issue with it before, even with the occasional spam bot lol.

@Spaghetti would you be able to disable the moderator approval thing at least for the support forums area? i mean, it's sort of important that no one gets confused or has issues posting here, they're already having some sort of issue no need to add more on.

I highly doubt your words mister!
Considering you're the same guy who said this:

You're a unique fellow, you're both so helpful and also incredibly condescending at the same time. It's a unique combo.

I'm not adding anything to the thread, but I do enjoy reading your posts.

The world doesn't revolve around Puppytine and any changes and inadvertent issues were not done simply to annoy you or make support harder.

Where possible I've done things recently to specifically make support easier (or less necessary), such as updating the download page to make the common Steam issue with install location front and center so new players are more likely to never even need interactive help. But okay, go ahead and beat that strawman.

The approval queue is part of the forum software and has always been there. It will trip under certain circumstances (specific phrases linked to spam in the past) and can be configured for use in other areas (such as if you wanted a section with only moderator approved threads/posts).

In this case it was due to Akismet, a commonly used anti-spam service. XenForo can be configured to use it as an extra measure to check posts and I did so a few months back. If I had to guess, the use of multiple links or attachments from newly registered users with very low post counts was probably what was triggering it. So far it had only caused a few false positives that were quickly approved, but I've disabled it for now since the primary registration anti-spam system has been working well enough recently.

Don't worry, your not the only one who gets told to fuck off.

I made a post back in December, specifically the image attached and they cant even be assed to do that so trying to get your game fixed definitely is like trying to find a needle in a haystack.View attachment 3699

There's only a few people with the permissions necessary to complete that request, and most of them would be inactive. If this was so important you might have considered trying to ping someone as a reminder as otherwise it could easily fall through the cracks.

It's good to keep in mind that everyone working on the mod are volunteers and are sinking what is usually little free time into keeping the project going.
