[SOLVED] "VM_Create on UI failed"

I just started having issues with MBII these last couple of days after playing for a few months without a problem. I am running Windows 10, with Jedi Academy in my Steam library.

I've gotten the same error "VM_Create on UI failed", and have reinstalled three times with the error closing the program after trying to change my screen resolution or trying to join a server through the server browser. I've looked through several threads already, and the stickied trouble shooting guide, but nothing has been able to fix this problem.

I've installed the game through the launcher
Any help would be appreciated, and if I need to give any additional information, I'll try and provide that.

Post full log of an error.

MBII Launcher => Settings => check "Enable logging" => Repair installation.
Post latest log from "Jedi Academy\GameData\MBII_Launcher\logs" here.

MBII Launcher => Settings => Engine => MBII Client => Play.
If you already use MBII Client, select jamp. Still crashes?

What is your videocard? Intel?
Try updating videocard's drivers.

So you say you were able running MB2 earlier. When did you start experience problem? What were changed between last successful launch and first unsuccessful?

MBII Launcher => Settings => Engine => MBII Client => Play.
This fixes the problem. I was able to change my resolution and join a server without it crashing.

I started experiencing infrequent crashes sometime this last week, but was able to reboot without a problem. Yesterday, I wasn't able to start the game without it crashing. Nothing changed before I started experiencing this issue.

Thank you for your help, I didn't know you could change the engine the mod was using.

I have the same problem but I cant change the engine option, it's gray on "JAMP"
What do you mean? What option is grayed and what is enabled?
What's happening when you click Play? If there is "VM_Create on UI failed" (or any other) error, please post full log.

MBII Launcher => Settings => check "Enable logging" => Repair installation.
Post latest log from "Jedi Academy\GameData\MBII_Launcher\logs" here.

What is your videocard? Intel?

Well this is what I see when I click on the settings tab Screenshot You can see that the engine option is gray and JAMP by default.

Hy. pls help me!!
my System: win xp
nvidia geforce 8400 video card
direct x 9
version 1.4 not working always crash the game and write this error message:
ambient sound initialization ---
Sound memory manager started
Loading dll file ui.
Failed to load dll, looking for qvm.
Loading vm file vm/ui.qvm.
Failed.
Shutting down OpenGL subsystem
VM_Create on UI failed

i tryed everything what i found internet to solved this problem, but nothing helped.
and yes, first of all, i did uninstall both jedi academy, and mb2. than reinstall both
i close to give up cause i cant know what is the problem. i have no idea what can i do more.
and sp/mp work well.

Make sure there is no file "uix86.dll" in "Jedi Academy\GameData" and in "Jedi Academy\GameData\base". Delete if you find one.

MBII Launcher => Settings => check "Enable logging" => Repair installation.

Update your videocard's drivers.

If all that won't help, you can switch to MBII client and try running game using it. Even if it will fail too, it will produce more detailed error log (I hope).
But there is a problem:

mbii.x86.exe was build with target that did not include Windows XP, and MajorOperatingSystemVersion field of optional header of exe file is equals 6, which stands for Vista.
I've uploaded patched version of mbii.x86.exe to attachment of this message, download it and replace your file in "Jedi Academy\GameData" folder.
If you don't want to use it, patch mbii by yourself. You'll need some application like PE Tools or any similar, or even HEX-editor, if you familiar with Win32 PE format. Corresponding field should be changed to '5'.

So, here is what you have to do:
  1. Modify "Jedi Academy\GameData\mbii.x86.exe" either by replacing with file from this post, or by manual patching
  2. MBII Launcher => Settings => Engine => MBII Client => Play.

okay, i deleted the file in base uix86.dll, and did a repair installation. after this with the launcher i press play, and i can enter the game, but when i choosed a server, nothing happened for a long time. then i escape with alt+ctrl+delete. heres the log messages:

It seems there is no appropriate Visual C++ Redistributable Packages on your computer.
I'm not sure why do get error about VC 2013, mbii.x86.exe uses VC 2010 in my case.

If that won't help, download and install one of these:

yes, it means no loading screen and appear the windows white cursor.

It seems there is no appropriate Visual C++ Redistributable Packages on your computer.

I wish I know. Since Launcher is written by @LoU, he should know what circumstances leads to disabling engine choice.
Try running Launcher and running Play_MBII_CustomOJK.bat.

Speaking of crashes jamp while changing resolution, try updating videocard's drivers.

You mean there was no loading screen and game stopped to respond input?

It seems there is no appropriate Visual C++ Redistributable Packages on your computer.
I'm not sure why do get error about VC 2013, mbii.x86.exe uses VC 2010 in my case.
Anywhore, download and install:
Download Visual C++ Redistributable Packages for Visual Studio 2013 from Official Microsoft Download Center
If that won't help, download and install one of these:

okay it works now:)
i dont know exactly what was the solution cause i try everything, but i updated my win xp with a service pack 3, and i updeted my video card. and now if i go launcher and go settings and choose mb2 client to the engine, it works :)

Make sure there is no file "uix86.dll" in "Jedi Academy\GameData" and in "Jedi Academy\GameData\base". Delete if you find one.

MBII Launcher => Settings => check "Enable logging" => Repair installation.
Post latest log from "Jedi Academy\GameData\MBII_Launcher\logs" here.

Update your videocard's drivers.

If all that won't help, you can switch to MBII client and try running game using it. Even if it will fail too, it will produce more detailed error log (I hope).
But there is a problem:

mbii.x86.exe was build with target that did not include Windows XP, and MajorOperatingSystemVersion field of optional header of exe file is equals 6, which stands for Vista.
I've uploaded patched version of mbii.x86.exe to attachment of this message, download it and replace your file in "Jedi Academy\GameData" folder.
If you don't want to use it, patch mbii by yourself. You'll need some application like PE Tools or any similar, or even HEX-editor, if you familiar with Win32 PE format. Corresponding field should be changed to '5'.

So, here is what you have to do:
  1. Modify "Jedi Academy\GameData\mbii.x86.exe" either by replacing with file from this post, or by manual patching
  2. MBII Launcher => Settings => Engine => MBII Client => Play.
