Fellow moviebattlers, friends, allies, scrimmers, I stand before you this afternoon with a heavy heart. I have been permanently muted from the MB2 main Discord.

I spent the past few months on that discord, I went there as Al-Blazim, and as I look around me now I realize I have few memories that predate my arrival.

The MB2 main Discord is a cauldron of opinions, and we've all certainly had our patience and tempers tested in pursuit of our ideals.

Disagree as might, I hope that those who know me will vouch for my credibility in the days to come.

I stand this afternoon with a difficult message, I believe we're in crisis. The distance between what is said and what is known to be true has become an abyss.

Of all the things at risk, the loss of freedom of speech is perhaps the most dangerous. The death of freedom is the ultimate victory of evil.

When free speech leaves us, when we let it slip away, when it is RIPPED FROM OUR MOUTHS, we become vulnerable to the appetite of whatever moderator happens to be online at the time.

The main MB2 Discord's hold on free speech was finally lost earlier this morning.

What took place earlier today, what happened yesterday on the main MB2 discord, was MOD ABUSE. YES, MOD ABUSE. AND THAT TRUTH HAS BEEN EXILED FROM THIS COMMUNITY.

AND THE MODERATOR SCREAMING THE LOUDEST? THE MODERATOR WHO WILL BAN ALL OF US SOON ENOUGH, IS... uhh.. uuh.. i actually don't know which mod muted me.

Having said that, let me provide some serious clarification.

Without naming any names, it's not unknown to the regulars of this community that in the past moderation within the main mb2 discord has seen inconsistent enforcement, I myself have been the victim of questionable judgement on more than one occasion, and I know other folks who have been through the same.

Let me get something straight, i'm not here to dispute moderation, i'm not here to antagonize anyone, what's done is done. However, I believe we can learn from what has happened by spreading awareness. That is what freedom of speech is all about.

So what happened? Earlier today a poor young man from India joined the discord. with enthusiasm in his eyes, he seemed highly interested in playing the iconic mod. there was one single problem, being shy in cash he was unable to afford the Jedi Academy videogame.

Being confronted with this scenario, myself and a few others decided to offer an alternative, one that did not involve the use of cash. you can guess where this is going. Let me clarify the following: what we suggested is not illegal everywhere. I can think of one particular member who recommended certain sites who is from Poland, and there it's perfectly legal to suggest what he suggested.

As we all engaged in this act of guidance towards the young man from India we noticed something; one by one, our messages were being deleted. My heart stopped for a second, "what is happening?" - I asked myself. But the worse was yet to come.

The realization finally hit me, and it hit like a truck, I was speaking of something that was forbbiden. As I came to that realization I immediately pivoted towards plausible deniability by very vaguely alluding to what this poor new indian player could decide to do moving forward.

Not a warning, not a second chance, nothing. Right then and there, I was immediately muted for an hour.

I then decided to reach out to friends, colleagues, and that's when I realized my worst fears had come to pass: It wasn't just me, others players were getting muted as well. It would seem that while it is indeed true that what we suggested is not illegal everywhere, it is illegal in the discord. The mute which we went on to receive was justified, but the lack of warning that preceeded it was not.

Did I get angry? Yes. Did I lash out? I sure did. Did I say a certain word which I should not have said, specially during pride month? I'm ashamed to admit that's the case.

Afterwards I calmed down. I looked outside, saw the shining sun, and it reminded me of simpler times. It made me think of when I was a young boy, playing around in the park, perhaps this is an opportunity - i thought. Perhaps I should take this chance to try something different. Maybe i'll give "scrimming" a shot, see what that's all about. I do wish however, that a second chance had been given to me. Equipped with this new found knowledge of the rules, I would certainly not have made the same mistake twice.

Does the punishment fit the crime, then? What do you guys think? What can we do differently as a community to break the barrier which has been built between the oligarchy and the peasants?

Software piracy is not legal anywhere. Getting salty with somone who didnt even moderate you was unwise. Enjoy your mute, maybe use that time to greater effect by trying to improve yourself as a human being?
