I have Jedi Academy on steam. I have the files from the download page in my GameData folder. I have opened the launcher and it has installed properly. I do have steam support checked in settings. I launch Jedi Academy on steam, click the setup>mods>MBII and load it. The game freezes on the title screen and the console says: recursive error after: Couldn't load shaders/_: help

Correct.
I launch Jedi Academy on steam, click the setup>mods>MBII and load it.

Start Movie Battles by clicking "Play" in MBII Launcher.
Or, at least, set this as a command-line option in Steam:
Code:
+set fs_game mbii
The game freezes on the title screen and the console says: recursive error after: Couldn't load shaders
Post everything that console says, do not omit anything.

MBII Launcher => Settings => check "Enable logging" => Repair installation.
Post latest log from "Jedi Academy\GameData\MBII_Launcher\logs" here.
