It occurred to me shortly after disconnecting - I might not have seen you mblock because you rarely got the chance when dueling me; I was a duelist of the 'combo rarely, swingblock often' variety back in 1.4, whereas 1.4.3 forces combo spam as a requirement for one's very survival.
