Tried dueling in 1.4.8 again with some friends last night, the developers need to take a second and look back.

I knew I remembered that build being way more fun and better than current, instead of taking the dueling in the wrong direction,
could we please go back to that instead of the developers coping and saying they want to go forward and not backwards?

Clearly something back then wasn't "backwards". The duels last longer, hits are more satisfying, certain maps don't have useless and bad changes, and more. The game would probably be revived again and all the clans that left like LW, AoD, Dark, etc would all come back due to the increased population and the dueling system not being trash anymore. You guys need to look back and see what was done right instead of blindly going "forward".

As soon as I went on there, it was literally night and day in terms of fun.
I am *certain* the community would welcome a return to older builds in some sort of official capacity.

tldr - 1.4.8 is way better than the current game, instead of the developers saying you want to "look forward and not backward", take a second and look backward and see what you did wrong the last several years. Take more of your communities opinions into account and stop having an ego because you don't want to revert to old changes because you don't want to have wasted your time knowing that what you did made things worse.

The games population has plummeted because of the developers, it's time for a drastic change to save this mod.

I wouldn't have been able to re-live the build without the help of Leo's great and intuitive patch switcher, which can be found here - MBII Version Switcher

I agree, devs need to stop with this "Progression! never backwards!" approach to making changes, idc what inner reasoning for it, whether ego or not. It hurts players genuine belief in the devs. Especially when a large number of changes have made the gameplay go backwards in many aspects compared to old builds recently. Less fun, less competitive, less freedom. Devs need to seriously fix the game and no better way than to look back at what made Movie Battles fun and successful to begin with in the older builds. Many players have suggested countless reasons on what to revert, yet it feels like we aren't heard or just getting shrugged off and it shows with playercount.

It's such a breath of fresh air to play the older builds again. Tried some ancient RC builds, 1.4.9, 1.5.5 and 1.6.2. Apart from the RC builds feeling really clunky to play (I def needed to spend more time learning the older mechanics since it's completely different to recent builds) They all felt so much better stability wise (No buggy pb/slap/body hitboxes) Visually they looked so much nicer (No rushed sped up animations) and were far more competitve (more mechanics, more depth, more skill).

I think I clocked in several hours straight on each build, even with limited player numbers. Where as I can hardly last 20-30 mins playing r20. any features/systems of the older builds like saber builds and open builds reverted into r20 with r20s polish would be hugely appreciated and could honestly revive the game in it's dwindling state. Cmon Base has more players now and it aint looking like we gonna get a population spike unless some changes are made.

Just for clarity, with that graph "JA MP Players" will always have more players than MB2, because MB2s players are included in the "JA MP Players" because it includes all mods and vanilla for multiplayer.

so many of the team's developers have quit in recent years so what kind of drastic change to fix and revitalize the mod are you expecting?
You already know there was one guy working on the saber stuff and he recently RQ so who is left to work on it now?
you're grasping at air rn; there is no one left who cares enough to fix the game, and even if there were, they wouldn't have the power to make the changes needed because _______________

I would take a sabbatical too. People don't really deserve anything in this community if this is how they treat anything new and exciting given to them. It's not just the dueling that "ruined" the patch but the culmination of a lot of bad ideas, none of which was built around actual player feedback, implemented in the game. At least Tempest made his changes from listening to other people's feedback.

People can't stand change, especially new content. It goes against everything they are used to, and how dare they have to learn the game again quick enough to compensate for their egos. They gotta be on top of their game, on top of their duel, in this 20yr old mod.

tempest took 5 years to release a patch no one wanted. he was repeatedly told that his decisions were bad but he chose to actively ignore criticisms of his design choices and seemingly only paid attention to the remarks made within his inner circle or to comments that lined up with his viewpoint. the result is a build that is only slightly better than the slop that he and stassin put together for 1.5, but then he kept fiddling with it and somehow made it even worse.
it's not about people not willing to accept change, though that is an issue, it is about someone who rarely played the game making changes to the saber system while disregarding the opinions of those who played daily.

This definitely can apply to some people, but it's just not really the truth. I offered myself to test whatever tempest can come up with in internal beta, I also vouched for a guy applying to beta team few months before open beta even began - we were aware that the build is simply said gonna be shit and potentially full of bugs. No one bothered, my friend didn't get in, Tempest couldn't care less about me volunteering to test stuff and instead released broken pb zones every single hotfix. All of this could have been avoided if there was proper internal testing and if tempest listened to the feedback, and didn't only nitpick the stuff he wanted himself.

Exactly the main reason why you're butthurt for not being allowed on the team, due to your behavior. I don't make it a point to reply to everything with a smug sense of superiority.

This is pure BS. Everyone cares. No one currently on the dev team is here for Internet points, I can think of two that were and neither lasted long. The rest of us have given up literally years of our free time because we care.

I think your adult players understand that and we are thanksful, I imagine the same will happen in due time with the less mature one.

Nonetheless caring is good, but we are wondering why some specifics things have been done the way they are now (i.e slap or other things)
those saying things about revert can't ofc be taken litterally they dont exactly know what it imply.
Yet one thing is rather sad but true, it's in the past that we had interesting stuff that we feel has changed now. In my personnal oppinion these are minor changes that aren't any close to a revert in any sort.

Lastly leaving a feeling of anarchy where no one really feels like it's the right time (or too late) to contribute with how they feel about the game. Perhaps this would be perceived differently if the devs would directly ask the community ?

Facts. I remember playing one of the first betas for the current build, myself and many others told him that mblock defence and several of his other ideas were unwanted and were unnecessary additions. I stopped playing/caring not long afterwards but it's clear he didn't listen to people's feedback.

To Defiant, I dont think the majority of the community are ungrateful for the devs spending their time working on MB2, I think more than anything it's just been a frustrating process when we've tried to 'have our say' but have been ignored time and time again. Perhaps polling future changes could be a good idea.
