Timeline: 17 BBY
<Vader comes next to Palpatine>
Palpatine: "Have you ever heard The Tragedy of Darth Valeria?"
Vader: "No."
Palpatine: "I doubted you would be familiar… The farthest depths of the old Jedi Archives would not hold this story."
Palpatine: "It is a legend from the Old Sith Empire."
<Vader listens to Palpatine>
Palpatine: "Darth Valeria was a Dark Lord of the Sith, and the Personal Enforcer of the Sith Emperor. She was born a slave on a Sith World: Dromund Kaas. For years she suffered, in much the way you have, but her pain and her suffering made her stronger. She became all the more powerful as the Dark Side sculpted her into a weapon. By destroying her enemies and removing her rivals she became a Darth on the Dark Council.
Palpatine: "Yet, Valeria was... different from the other Sith. Similarly to the rest, she wielded a deep hatred for nearly everyone. She differed, however, and held love, not hatred, for two things: Her family, and her slaves. She cared deeply for her family and her loved ones, like a compassionate angel. And, she gave freedom to any slaves she had."
<This story really surprised Vader, especially about slaves>
Vader: She… freed her slaves?
Palpatine: "Of course… her strength, her slave past… It reminds me of you, my apprentice."
Vader: "If the Jedi Order did not know of this story… Then how do you know, master?"
Palpatine: "The Sith History has tendrils that go far deeper into truth than the Jedi could ever hope to achieve. Valeria was remembered, even if she was a heretic to some Sith."
Vader: "Interesting. What became of her?"
Palpatine: "She had such power and knowledge of the Dark Side… However, there was only one thing, she was afraid of."
Vader: "Losing her power?"
Palpatine: No… losing her loved ones.
Palpatine: "Unfortunately, her wife developed a cancer of the Dark Side. She lost her wife to the sickness.
Palpatine: "Eventually her loved ones and her followers lost faith in Darth Valeria and left her within years."
Palpatine: "She was driven into a depression so deep that she would never return from it...
Palpatine: "In the end, she took her own life."
Palpatine: "Ironic, is it not?
Palpatine: "The Sith Empire could have been hers for the taking… yet she chose to open herself to the weakness of compassion.
Palpatine: "I admired her strength... but I also find her compassion pathetic."
